Seriously? Seriously? Plus, we all know Jesus is a Notre Dame fan.

colbert gets it right

Stephen Colbert is a genius. Or, at least, his writers are. I have never heard the hypocrisy of the far-right’s use of the term “Christian Nation” so exposed as I did in the last 20 seconds of this clip.

… and here’s the money quote:

“…because if this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn’t help the poor, either we’re going to have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we’ve got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition… and then admit that we just don’t want to do it.”

It’s pretty clear to me that our nation was founded on the principles of religious freedom, not Christianity. But for those who operate within the fantasy that America’s prosperity in recent years has something to do with the faith of our forefathers – please tell me how you justify your attitude towards the poor and your faith in Jesus. That is all.
